E3 Disappointments: Things We Didn't See

E3 2013 has been an overall great experience. From the next-gen hardware and games, to big titles closing out the current gen, there was a lot to see. Still, there were quite a few things that we went into E3 hoping for but came out empty-handed. Here’s a list of some of the things we wanted to see at E3, but were not there.

SEGA

Where SEGA has stumbled, Nintendo has given them support. SEGA has slightly struggled over recent years with finances. For this reason, we see titles like Bayonetta 2 being published by Nintendo, and a partnership making exclusive Sonic game for the Wii U and 3DS. That’s not to say SEGA has gone Nintendo only. There were a few games for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 shown at E3. Still, SEGA has a few other titles that fans were desperately hoping for in the Western hemisphere and got no news of. These include:

  • Phantasy Star Online 2 (Vita, PC, and possibly PS4)
  • Yakuza 5 (PS3)

PlayStation Vita

The struggling handheld has found a niche audience, but that may not be enough to keep it moving forward. There were a few things that many fans were hoping to hear about or hear more on at E3. We will likely hear these things closer to the end of the year, but for now, we are kept in the dark. These include:

  • The living room initiative
  • Vita memory and price solutions
  • “Bigger” titles

Rockstar

In a move becoming more common by parent company Take Two, Rockstar games (along with 2K Games) once again did not go to E3. Although they announced ahead of time that they would not be at the show, many fans of the company’s titles were hoping to see something on stage at one of the conferences from Sony, Microsoft, or even during the E3 Nintendo Direct. Here are some of the titles that some folks were looking forward to:

  • Grand Theft Auto V for next-gen
  • Midnight Club next-gen
  • Red Dead sequel
  • Agent

Other Titles

There have also been some “vaporware” that fans eagerly anticipate news for each year since their initial announcements. Once again, another gaming event has passed by with barely a whisper on each title. In addition to the vaporware, some fans were hoping to see some big franchises as launch titles for next-gen hardware, or the localization of some Japanese hits. These include:

  • Half Life 3
  • The Last Guardian
  • New Guerrilla Games IP
  • Next-gen Uncharted
  • Digimon Adventure and Digimon re: Digitize
  • Project Versus J
  • Final Fantasy Type-O
  • Freedom Wars

Wonderbook, Kinect Demos

Ha! I’m only kidding. :)

Thanks to all of you who submitted! So those are just some things we didn’t see from E3 that we were hoping would show up. What are some of the E3 no-shows that you wanted to see? Let us know in the comments below!
