GDC 2013 has revealed some new light on the upcoming, captivating PSN title, rain. Developed by PlayStation C.A.M.P!, rain is about a boy who is trying to save an invisible girl who can only be seen in the rain. While trying to save the girl, he finds out that he too has become invisible and he must learn to navigate through the unknown, using the rain to guide and protect him from other invisible creatures that seek to harm him and the girl.
Throughout rain, players control the invisible boy, leveraging the unique ability to appear in the rain and disappear under cover to advance through the storyline. However, just like in the real world, players must understand that at times what they are able to see isn’t everything and they must use their imagination to interact with the environment and solve puzzles, and to help them along their journey to safety. - Picture Book Art Style – The world of rain is realized using a distinct mixture of fantasy and realistic art elements. The pouring rain and the mystical fog bring players into the realm of fantasy. At the same time, the unique hand-drawn-art-style triggers a sense of nostalgia.
- Explorative Strategic Gameplay – With a little imagination, the player’s surrounding environment evolves into a dynamic, new world. Players control an invisible character whose silhouette can only be seen when they are standing in the rain. As players run under overhangs or move objects to create cover, the boy disappears from view; alternatively they must pick-up items to distract enemies and become “visible” again.
PlayStation has set a 2013 PSN release for rain. There is no official release date however.
