Wii U Sells 400,000 Units Launch Week

In an interview with CNET, Nintendo of America’s president Reggie Fils-Aime, revealed the initial sales numbers for the Wii U. The new console launched on Sunday, November 18th in North America and according to Fils-Aime, sold 400,000 units during that week.

Overall, the company sold over 1 million systems last week with the following figures from internal sources:

  • Wii U – 400,000
  • Wii – 300,000
  • 3DS – 250,000
  • DS – 275,000
Fils-Aime added that due to the limited supply of the systems and retailers selling out of stock quickly, those numbers were lower than they could have been. He went on to say that he doesn’t think this will be a repeat of the Wii’s shortage issue and that retailers will be supplied with more systems as soon as they can.

Have you already picked up a Wii U and contributed to those sales figures? Do you plan on getting one soon? Sound off about your new system in the comments below!
