BioWare has revealed today that the next chapter of the Mass Effect franchise is already in development. In a note from Yanick Roy, the Studio Director over at BioWare Montreal, the following was mentioned:
” …the next Mass Effect game is already in development, driven by the team here in Montreal. This is the goal we have been working toward for years now, and every member of our team is proud, excited, and humbled to take on the responsibility for the next game.”
The game is being developed using the new Frostbite engine and Mr. Roy promises that it will stay true to the Mass Effect franchise although the initial trilogy has come to a conclusion.
“…we are exploring new directions, both on the gameplay and story fronts. You can still expect the pillars the franchise is known for to be fully intact though, including diverse alien races, a huge galaxy to explore, and of course rich, cinematic storytelling.”
Unfortunately, Yanick went on to mention that there is not much more he can share, nor will we hear much more about the project for a while. In addition, there’s no mention if this is in development for current gen systems or next-gen. Likely it will be supported by all major platforms as the current trilogy now is on PlayStation, Microsoft, and Nintendo systems in whole or in part.
