So, Where's Star Wars PlayStation Move?

When Sony revealed their motion controller for the PS3 back at E3 2009, there was one [possible] game on a lot of people’s mind: Star Wars. The new controller was seemingly a perfect fit for bringing the legendary action of lightsabers into the living room. Three years later however, there is still nothing to be seen on that frontier. So my question is: Where is Star Wars PlayStation Move? These are my quick thoughts on why I think it would be a neat idea.

While it may be a no-brainer idea for fans of PlayStation and Star Wars to create a Move exclusive or Move enabled Star Wars game, obviously a lot more goes into that process than just saying, “We’re going to make a game.” As the saying goes, it takes two to tango. It is very possible that Sony approached LucasArts with the idea who in turn didn’t find the PS Move to be a viable platform to develop for. Unfortunately, unlike Microsoft’s Kinect or the Nintendo Wii, the PlayStation Move hasn’t sold too well. This is largely due to the fact that there are not really any “must have” movers for the accessory. So, while the idea might seem logical, game development is first a business and money matters. On the other hand, there may be a game secretly in development. Whatever the case is, the public hasn’t seen anything yet.

Still, it’s a nice idea. The Wii has its exclusive Star Wars motion game, Star Wars The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels and Microsoft’s Kinect even got one out that caused quite a bit of excitement, Star Wars Kinect. So, it’s not unreasonable to think it’s about time that Sony’s Move got a motion controlled Star Wars game. Imagine, a Star Wars adventure game that uses both the Move’s motion and navigation controller or something a bit more casual that could just use the motion controller. How about a lightsabers duels part 2 that could even go multiplatform? Or even a Move enabled Star Wars The Force Unleashed sequel? I think it would be better to have an exclusive Move game however so that they can work on making it the best game possible instead of just tacking on the Move functions as an afterthought. A well made Star Wars game exclusive for the Move could indeed give the accessory that boost it needs in sales.

Fans have been calling for a PS Move Star Wars game but we still have yet to see anything. Is it time to lose hope and give up? With the next generation creeping ever closer, it’s hard to tell. Sony’s first party still supports the Move and is even coming out with exclusive games like Until Dawn which is set to launch in 2013. Some third-party devs also support the move from time to time using it as an optional control scheme in some games or adding it for mini games or menu controls. In 2010, Eurogamer reported comments from a software engineer at Sony Computer Entertainment of America that gave hopes that a Star Wars Move game is in fact in development. Unfortunately, he refused to elaborate on those comments and we have not heard anything since. We can always remain hopeful that if there are enough fans that want the game and they keep pushing for it, their voices may be heard.

So sound off in the comments below: Are you a Star Wars fan who wants a PS Move game? Do you currently own a move? Would a Star Wars Move game motivate you to buy the motion controller if it looked good enough? Discuss below!

  1. I would LOVE a Star Wars PS Move game! It’d honestly be the best thing to happen to the accessory.

  2. yup would LOVE a star wars PS move game… dang..where is it. or for that matter any sword based game on the move would be excellent I would think…

  3. i bought a move and KZ3 when it released. I won’t play a shooter without it now.

    • Killzone 3 had the best Move incorporation for a FPS for sure. I played through the whole game MP and campaign with the Move – Platinum’ed it with a Move as well.

  4. Even the simple game based on Sport Champions idea of Gladiator fights, but with lightsabers would be awesome, I played the Wii version of Force Unleashed and it was great to have duels with friends, so why not in HD on PS3?

  5. I blame sony for poor MOVE sales , Tell me has any on seen a Sharpshooter commercial or any set up in the video game store . but im sure you have seen the Wii-U or Kinect set up on display. Then you never see counter arguments against rumors that the PS MOVE is inaccurate . M.A.G. & S.O.C.O.M. 4 debunks all inaccuracy Rumors , Is What the DEVS put into it.

  6. I like sony, but move is just a bad copy of wii, and it will never be better than kinect, so they will not put money on something that clearly doesnt make money to them… I realy want ps4 to better than this, because ps3 is worst than wii.. even vita is more fun, a lot fun actualy ^^
