PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Officially Announced – First Gameplay and Screens Revealed

Finally, all rumors and speculation can be put to rest! Our dreams have been realized! It’s official, PlayStation has announced their newest IP, the mash ’em up, four player brawler, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. What’s more, the game is slated to drop later this year!

Exclusively for the PlayStation 3 and developed by SuperBot Entertainment, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale takes characters and themes from the entire PlayStation universe and pits them in in a brand new brawler. The game will feature both single player and up to 4-player multiplayer modes (online and offline). Some of the playable revealed characters include:

  • Kratos
  • Sweet Tooth
  • Parappa
  • Fat Princess (yeah, that was definitely a hint we got earlier)
  • Colonel Radec
  • Sly Cooper

.. just to name a few. In addition to the first party exclusive Sony characters, the game will include a line-up of special characters from some third party developers and publishers.

The environments are dynamic and also taken from the various worlds of PlayStation games such as Jak and Daxter, Patapon, God of War, and Ratchet & Clank to name just a few we have seen. Many of the levels change during gameplay and also influence the way you battle! Of course there are a lot more characters and stages that are yet to be revealed.

Some of the modes you can play include versus matches for four, team battles, special practice modes, and team up with friends to take on players online. Online battles will offer different challenges, including Tournament mode, Special Event Battle, and Custom Matches.

Here’s one of your first looks at PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale with a handful of first screens and a nice little video with gameplay footage (no official trailer yet) straight from PlayStation:
