5 Original Xbox Games That Should Be Remade

Recently I decided to go through my old games and give some of them some play time. I actually own so many games that I haven’t been able to play them all the way through or some that I might not have even started. I decided to go down a list of original Xbox titles that I hadn’t had the chance to finish and I found them all to be very solid games that hold up pretty well. When you consider that Microsoft actually was offering HD games on the original Xbox, it’s easy to imagine that it wouldn’t take much work to bring up the graphics a bit more.

We all know HD remakes are all the rage, mostly because it’s a cheap, effective way to make a quick buck, thus far Microsoft hasn’t really been in on this craze, I think because the Xbox 360 is backwards compatible for the most part. That being said, not every original Xbox game is able to be played on the Xbox 360 and even some that are tend to be glitchy and kind of buggy. Mostly due to the fact that it’s emulated, not true hardware backwards compatibility, games like Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic is notorious for its glitchy frame rate when played in an Xbox 360. So this is a list of some of the games that I would love to see remade for current hardware.

1.Conker: Live And Reloaded
This one is a given, Conker is one of the titles from the original Xbox that everyone seems to be asking for. To even get the game used on a site like Amazon will cost you close to $30, if not more. Conker on the Xbox was a bit toned down when compared to the N64 version, so I’d definitely prefer to see an unedited version on the Xbox 360. Considering the advancements with Xbox Live, the online features that the Xbox version had would be all the better on the Xbox 360, Capture The Flag and Team Death Match were so much fun with Conker back in 2005 and I bet a remake would be just as fun, if not more so.

2.Panzer Dragoon Orta
When you look back at the original Xbox you will notice that Sega threw a ton of support Microsoft’s way. Panzer Dragoon Orta was one of the offerings that Microsoft and Sega had hoped would spark interest in Japan for the new console. The Panzeer Dragoon series was very popular on the Sega Dreamcast and Sega hoped it would carry over to the new Xbox. To some extent it did, the game was very well received by critics and fans alike, it looks beautiful and played very well. Even going back to it the other week I think the game looks and plays fresh, I could imagine it doing very well with a full on remake attempt. I do realize Project Draco is coming out soon for the Xbox 360/ Kinect, which in a lot of ways is the spiritual successor to Panzer Dragoon, but I’d love an actual HD remake of Orta.

3.Jade Empire
Jade Empire still looks great on the Xbox, but if you play it on the Xbox 360 it tends to be awfully buggy and the frame rate has constant issues, sometimes making the game unplayable. Which is why it would make sense for Bioware and Microsoft to get together and make a remake of the original game. I wouldn’t even mind if they were to simply put an HD version on the Xbox Live Arcade Marketplace. Bioware seemed to really have an idea on what to do with this game, it had a fantastic story line and we were actually promised more Jade Empire. I still own the Collectors Edition and I don’t hold out much hope for a true sequel, but since Microsoft published the first game, I could see this as a possibility in the future.

4.Voodoo Vince
Voodoo Vince is one of the games that cannot be played on the Xbox 360, it never received a backwards compatibility patch. So it’s definitely a game that could use a remake. Originally made by Beep Industries and published by Microsoft, Voodoo Vince is a unique game that has you play as a voodoo doll that hurts other people by hurting himself. There just aren’t really any inventive games like this one on the market now days. The Xbox 360 is in desperate need of platform games and this one is top of the line, fun, colorful and addictive.

5.Toejam And Earl 3: Mission To Earth
Toejam And Earl 3 is one of those games that people often forget about, it wasn’t a huge commercial success but the game itself was great fun. I loved the original Toejam & Earl games for the Sega Genesis and this is another one of those Sega made games that was exclusive to the Xbox when it launched. the game is a platform/action adventure hybrid game and there really isn’t anything like this out there today. The humor and colorful nature of the game make it an instant classic and that alone is worth a remake in my opinion. I think at this time more people could appreciate a game like Toejam & Earl 3.

Well there you have it, 5 original Xbox games that would be great if remade in full HD. I think with how successful Halo CE Anniversary is going to be for Microsoft, we might see quite an influx of games being remade for this generation. These games would be cheap to remaster, which means more profit and I truly think there is a market for these games. Which original Xbox titles would you like to see remade?
